After weaning feed the puppy 3 to 4 times per day for the first two months, and then from 2 to 3 times per day until reaching adult size, and then 1 to 2 times per day. Expect to feed 1 1/2 to 2 times the adult feeding recommendation during the puppy's growing phase, adjust the daily amount fed so the puppy maintains a good body condition.
During pregnancy increase the feeding amount during the last 1/3 of pregnancy to 1 1/2 times the amount recommended as shown for the adult. Avoid excessive over feeding, maintaining a good body condition, while preparing for whelp and nursing.
A nursing female can expect to need 2 to 3 times as much food as recommended in the adult feeding guideline. Adjust the extra food given by the number of puppies and length of nursing.
